We recreate the childhood kids were always meant to have,
full of wonder, sunshine, freedom to play and learn through real, hands-on experiences in nature.
Guidance by trusted adults dedicated to honoring children's interests and focusing on their wholistic development.
We recreate the neighborhood play and bring back community to Houston.
Some Things We Believe In
Mixed Age-Groups
Children learn best from each other.
Younger children mimic the older ones and develop skills at a faster pace, while their older peers develop empathy and practice leadership skills.
Child-Led Learning
When children are allowed to do what interests them, their focus and concentration improves. We do not rush kids and allow them to take their time. We pay attention and cater to their natural interests.
Minimal Supplies
Children do not need fancy toys.
We have seen creativity thrive with minimal supplies. Nature becomes a tool for bringing endless ideas to life.
Risky Play
We guide children through doing "dangerous" things (i.e. climbing, jumping) safely, encouraging trust in their bodies and recognition of their own limits. We have seen children's confidence flourish just from this alone.
Sensory Play
We allow children to safely explore the world through their senses. And more often than not, it gets messy. We are more than okay with mess and see the value it plays in child development.
All-Weather Learning
In the heat of Houston summers or cold winters, being outside in all kinds of weather helps build resilience. As long as we can be outside safely, we will be.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a space in our Houston community where children and children at heart go to gather, play and connect, with nature and each other. A space to learn directly from our non-human neighbors, while getting fresh air and sunlight, guided by the changing seasons.
Here, we believe in the power of free play and the creativity nature inspires in all of us. We honor the children's interests and focus on their wholistic development.
Through exploration and connection to our environment, we nurture empathy, curiosity, critical thinking and resilience.
At Gentle Roots Nature Care, we aim to become "the village" parents were always meant to have, and inspire a deep love for the land that sustains us all.
